Restive Delusions

The current code word in heavy use by news agencies to describe violent, terroristic actions, or sectarian violence, or any militance by Islamic extremists is “Restive“.  It’s just been pointed out to me that in paraphrasing some news accounts that I used it as well.  Time to fix that – strikethrough and put the proper phrase in place.

Pakistan Thursday Update

We still have very mixed results coming from Pakistan, and things are definitely heating up. The Peace accords signed in the frontier regions have changed the status quo forever. The Taliban and AQ forces now appear to be overstepping their bounds with the citizenry, and people are not only speaking out, they are fighting back.

Leftists Align With Neo-Nazis

race_flyer.jpgZombie has come across some footage demonstrating that both the goals, and the terminology used, by White Supremacists and the Anti-War left are the the same. Please take a stop by and see the photos and analysis of this dangerous alignment yourself.  From Zombie:

The question that nags at me is this:

Why did the media fail to describe the “anti-Semitic” literature distributed by W.A.R. in Berkeley? The reporters surely saw the material, as most of the other flyers and publications were described in the various news reports. Of them all, it seems only that one was left unmentioned.

Was this not a random oversight, but instead a conscious or subconscious decision? One wonders if the reporters, upon seeing the anti-Israel flyer and perhaps realizing that its sentiment was identical to the sentiment of the anti-war movement, decided to just sweep that particular detail under the rug.

All the reports mention the fact that there was anti-Semitic material found, and it was decried and condemned by the various people quoted in the article. But then why — when the exact same messages are displayed at left-wing rallies — does the media not produce news reports exposing the anti-Semitism of the “peace movement”?

Missile Defense news

pac-3-launch-bg.jpgJapan has deployed their own Patriot PAC-3 Missle defense batteries Friday at Iruma airbase in Saitama Prefecture. This is a full year ahead of the announced date, and will certainly give North Korea something to think on. From Spacewars:

Kyodo also noted that while the current Patriots are deployed as an integrated part of Japan’s own armed forces, U.S. forces last October deployed PAC-3 missiles at the U.S. Kadena Air Base on the Japanese island of Okinawa, the main U.S. military base in the region. Each Patriot PAC-3 launcher can fire up to 16 missiles, the Japanese news agency said.

Tokyo is not betting on the Patriot alone. It has also purchased U.S.-built Standard Missile-3 interceptors to be fired from warships, and hopes top have its first warship armed with them operational by the end of this year. SM-3s are designed for higher level interception of incoming ballistic missiles, though not to intercept extremely fast flying intercontinental ballistic missiles, or ICBMs. Patriots are designed for low level close range interception.

This will put two layers in place, and further development of the US GMD systems and other initiatives will put the rest of the needed missile defense layers in place.

Pakistan Tuesday Update

Waziristan Taliban vs. Al Qaeda:

Azam Warshak has been cleared of Uzbeks and they report finding arms caches from from Hekmatyr there, along with computers. Some federal troops were injured in the fighting and flown to military hospitals. The government is still denying government involvement, however some locals suggest that the tribals were not strong enough to dislodge the veteran Uzbek fighters without assistance.

Pakistan Update

In the latest move of the radical madrassah in downtown Islamabad, Jamia Hafsa / Lal Masjid, they have issued a Fatwah against the female minister of Tourism for Pakistan, Nilofar Bahktiar. Official government reaction is that they are not going to confront directly:

The official reaction to Sunday’s decree came from Minister of State for Health Shahnaz Sheikh who said Darul Afta had no authority to issue a decree against anyone. “These people are misinterpreting Islam and we strongly condemn this act,” she added.

It is also apparent the mufti of the madrassah are holding some of the children in the Madrassah hostage from the parent’s complaints. Satellite recon shows armed men in the madrassah, denoted as “wanted criminals”… which probably really means “known Taliban or Al Qaeda Terrorists”.

Launching Aircraft With a Railgun

cvn-78-painting.jpgThe newest Aircraft Carrier in the US arsenal, USS Gerald Ford CVN 78,  is under construction now and the cats are definitely going future tech. The new system launches aircraft with a rail gun (Linear Induction Motor, or LIM) and looks like it will be a great improvement over current Steam Catapults. Just think of all that plumbing sailors won’t have to maintain for one thing. The EMALS (Electro-Magnetic Aircraft Launch System) is highly configurable and adjustable to the ride needed for the aircraft being launched — whether that’s a light frame future UAV, or a Hawkeye.

For more detail please visit Defense Tech. (Oh, and when you’re there tell Ward that the video at page bottom uses a Trebuchet, not a Catapult, but it’s well worth watching anyway.)

Ten Leagues Beyond the Wide World’s End

Ten Leagues Beyond the Wide World’s End

phasesmoon.jpg

The moon’s my constant mistress,
And the lonely owl my marrow;
The flaming drake and the night crow make
Me music to my sorrow.

The spirits white as lightning
Would on my travels guide me
The stars would shake and the moon would quake
Whenever they espied me.

And then that I’ll be murdering
The Man in the Moon to the powder
His staff I’ll break, his dog I’ll shake
And there’ll howl no demon louder.

With a host of furious fancies,
Whereof I am commander,
With a burning spear and a horse of air
To the wilderness I wander.

By a knight of ghosts and shadows
I summoned am to tourney
Ten leagues beyond the wide world’s end-
Methinks it is no journey.

Religious Scholars Rebuke Jamia Hafsa-Lal Masjid

The Nation reports on religious scholars rebuking the militant Jamia Hafsa Mullahs who have declared Sharia court for Islamabad :

ISLAMABAD(APP) -Religious scholars from different schools of thought here Saturday described as negative actions of students of Jamia Hafsa and adminstration of Lal Masjid.
Talking to the agency, they said all religious scholars and parties of the country advocated enforcement of Islam in a peaceful manner. They said the method adopted by Lal Masjid administration is not the right approach, as agitation is not the solution to any dispute.
The scholars further elaborated that Islam never allows establishment of state within the state and if Lal Masjid administration is desirous for an Islamic society in Pakistan, it should adopt the way of reconciliation and cooperation.
Renowned religious scholar and Provincial Khateeb of Punjab, Mufti Abdul Islam talking to APP by telephone said that administration of Jamia Hafsa and Lal Masjid should have consulted and taken into confidence the leaders of religious parties instead of taking steps like announcing enforcement of Sharia by its own.
He apprehended that the adoption of violent steps would only backfire instead of contributing towards efforts for enforcement of Sharia in the country.
Meanwhile, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, Khateeb Badshahi Mosque, also suggested the way of reconciliation to settle down the controversy amicably.
Talking to this scribe, he said that Lal Masjid administration should not have taken the law into hands and resorted to any violent act.
He said that the issue should be settled through dialogue for which students of the Jamia Hafsa as well as Lal Masjid adminstration should shun the way of confrontation and adopt a reasonable attitude.
