The Last Bloody Century

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all convictions, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity. – Yeats

_135476_Pile_of_skulls_and_bones_from_Cambodia_killing_fields1.jpg The last century was the bloodiest in all of history   Wars took millions, and serial killers took the lives of many here in our country, but one evil philosophy outdoes them all.

The full tally of deaths in the 20th century by violence stands well above 200,000,000. About 35 million people were killed in wars, and 169 million souls were murdered, starved, tortured, beaten, crushed, gassed, marched, flogged, or worked to death by their own governments.

assyrian-genocide.jpgThis chart changes as the owner refines it, and I’ve added the rightward column to define the base type of government and demonstrate a pattern. To put this in proportion here’s a quote from the site’s author, R.J. Rummel:

Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by government, if all these bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5 foot, then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century. Finally, given popular estimates of the dead in a major nuclear war, this total democide is as though such a war did occur, but with its dead spread over a century

chinese-children.jpgSo many people murdered and starved, tortured and beaten: fathers, daughters, mothers, sons, poets, bakers, teachers, doctors, children, priests, cousins, lovers, wifes, husbands — slain.

Many Poli-Sci majors would argue with me over the classifications, but I have classed them as their base forms. The period of Ottoman dissolution was hard, because who knew who was governing or invading during that period of dissolution after the Balkan wars? Chiang Kai Shek and the KMT professed to want democracy, but during the period stated they were authoritarian, with Leninist elements but purging the communists  how do you classify that?

Regardless, anyone can see the pattern here. Modern political science courses are taught with the terminology of Marxism, or the deconstructed terminology of Marxism, or the re-defined agit-prop language of Marxism, so you will have people dead-set against how I have classed the form of governments above. These courses are designed to disguise the source of evil: Hitler was a fascist, not a true socialist, etc.

victims-of-nazi-genocide.jpgCall it what you will then, but then answer the question: what is the flaw in socialism that leads to mass human extinction? Why does every social democracy live in dread fear of the next Hitler, the next Robespierre, the next Beria?

The greatest toll of human life in one century, the greatest evil of last century and of all time lies on the doorstep of the Marxists/Socialists. If these deaths all happened in one year, it would be equivalent to wiping out the entire population of Japan with a couple of smaller countries thrown in.

If that happened — everyone in Japan murdered in a single year by a political ideology, would there be any apologists for socialism left? If that happened, would there be any socialists in our colleges still teaching? Would there be any socialists anywhere in the world?

bad0080.jpgWe are faced now with a new evil, Islamic Imperialism, Jihadists, terrorists — call it what you will. It’s no mistake that our opponents follow the tactics of socialist and communist revolutionaries, and it’s no mistake that they have always been aligned with them. It’s also no mistake that when they attacked the US, they went for symbols of Capitalism.

mao-genocide.jpgIt’s no mistake that socialist parties in america have aligned with PLO, HAMAS, and other Jihadis, and it’s no mistake that they are almost monolithically anti-Jewish. It’s no mistake because they are natural allies who have worked together for a long time. The only question about their alliance is which ones are the useful idiots: the neo-socialists or the jihadis?

smyrna-children.jpgIt’s a dangerous alliance that hasn’t fully jelled, but it easily could. While liberals will pillory the idea of secular socialists grouping with fascist religious zealots, they need to rethink their logic. Both factions have demonstrated time and again that lieing to achieve your ends is ok, that terror to achieve your ends is ok. If the ends justify the means, the alliance could jell easily, and in many small ways already has. One example should suffice, the terrorist training camps at Salman Pak  supported by a Secular, Baathist Socialist leader, Sadaam Hussein.

rwandan-skulls.jpgThis century, this millenium, it’s our duty to ensure that the blood dimmed tide is not once again loosed, we need to make the 20th century the Last Bloody Century. We can not do that if we do not recognize all faces of freedom’s enemies. Already the tide of genocide rises again: in Darfur where the Sudan encourages the Janjaweed, in Korea where Kim Il is starving the populace, and even in Iraq, where Al Qaeda is murdering shiites by the hundreds to further their aim of creating civil war. This must all be stopped.

  1. I have just finished reading the autobiography of Mao by Jiang Jung and question the number of deaths you have attributed to the Chinese communists. I think you have vastly underestimated them. Also, I would argue that the deaths at the hands of Chiang Kai Shek should in many cases be placed in the communist column. Chiang was fighting the communist takeover of China and many of those killed were communists. It would be like saying we are responsible for X number of Japanese deaths during WWII when we were attacked and provoked into war. Those Japanese deaths should rightly be placed at the feet of the Japanese themselves and I would argue the same goes for the Chinese communists. If Chiang hadn’t had to battle the communists (funded by the USSR)many deaths would arguably have been occurred.
Of course, you only cites actual deaths and not the millions and millions of lives consigned to misery and torture under these regimes–I think you should take into account the blood splattered survivors of these regimes. Nevertheless, you are absolutely correct–the 20th Century, thanks to Marxism and Socialism is the bloodiest, cruelest century. Let’s hope it is the last.

  2. Thanks for the comment Ann, the numbers used come from an old chart from a scholar named RJ Rummel in Hawaii, his site is here:

One more consideration — these are not deaths from war. These are deaths by policy, initiative, pogram, program, march, genocide, forced labor, and torture.

The chart I used is old and he has indeed since revised the numbers, you might want to pay it a visit.
