Waziristan Pact Violated

In a bad sign for the Waziristan pact, NATO states that the recent bombers in Afghanistan were trained by Sadiq Noor in North Waziristan, definitely a breaking of the pact.

Musharraf and Waziristan Update

Sorry for the long delay in this report, I’ve been holding out for more names and information, but that’s not forthcoming at the moment.

I’ve been holding out hoping that I could announce that Hamid Gul was one of the arrests in the round-up after the Coup attempts, but by then this could be stale.

In earlier posts you’ve seen the Musharraf asassination attempts, and the lead up to them: the Waziristan accords as well as the closing of Jihadi ISI-sponsored camps. This is a move towards better relations with India, as well as a turn-out of the Taliban / Al Qaeda -affiliated old guard of the ISI. With the recent rumors of Bin Laden’s death, Zawahiri’s takeover, and other portents you can see that there has been a shift. It’s likely that the Al Qaeda leadership is no longer in Pakistan.

We’ve Got the Dream, They’ve got the Spleen

To carry on with the theme from my earlier post: elections are about the future, not the past seen through a distorted, dark mirror. While the pundits have the Dems sweeping to power I’ve made my prediction, and Karl Rove seems to be saying much the same. I expect the Republicans to lose some seats, perhaps 6-10, but hold control of the house. I expect it would be a miracle if the Dems took the senate.

Franken, You’re Fired!

portraits_Par_0030_PortraitImageFile.gif“Franken — You’re Fired.”

It’s not as far a stretch of the imagination as you might think. This conversation could take place.

Air America has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the state of New York.

Under bankruptcy law, in chapter 11 cases normally the debtor, in this case Air America, tries to have themselves appointed as trustee over the bankruptcy. However in cases of mismanagement, the court and the creditors can appoint the trustee.

Republicans Keep Both Houses

UPDATE: I could not have been more wrong….

I’m going on record with my election prediction early: The Republicans will retain majority control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Why do I say this?

Because even after days of salacious scandal, weeks of questionable polling, months of frothing hyperbolic editorials, and two solid years of “We are doomed in Iraq, We are doomed in Afghanistan, We are doomed in the War on Terror” everyone I know who is conservative to moderate is still planning on voting.

Some Dare Call it Treason

gadahn.jpgAdam Gadahn, American Taliban, is going to be tried for Treason in absentia. The evidence against him is overwhelming, and I don’t see how the prosecution can fail. That is unless the ACLU gets involved. Reuters Story:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A California-born convert to Islam, accused of making a series of al Qaeda propaganda videos, became on Wednesday the first American charged with treason since the World War Two era, U.S. Justice Department officials said.

Fugitive Adam Gadahn, 28, who is believed to be in Pakistan, was accused of treason, which carries a maximum punishment of death, and providing material support to al Qaeda, they said.

According to the charges, Gadahn appeared in five videos broadcast between October 2004 and September 11, 2006, giving al Qaeda “aid and comfort … with the intent to betray the United States.”

Don’t be surprised to see people protesting outside the trial, and expect to see Kefiyahs, HAMAS T-Shirts, and the usual signs of anti-Jewish bigotry there.

Rowan Tree

Oh rowan tree, oh rowan tree,
Thoul’t aye be dear to me.
Entwin’d thou art wi’ mony ties,
O’ hame and infancy.
Thy leaves were aye the first o spring,
Thy flowr’s the simmer’s pride:
There was na sic a bonnie tree,
In all the country side.
Oh rowan tree.

How fair wert thou in simmer time,
Wi’ all thy clusters white.
How rich and gay thy autumn dress,
Wi’ berries red and bright.
Oh thy fair stem were mony names
Which now nae mair I see,
But there engraven on my heart,
Forgot they ne’er can be.
Oh rowan tree.
