Pak Army Attacks Camps

The Pakistan Army has attacked two camps in Waziristan, for the details stop by The Fourth Rail.  They did not use troops but attacked with artillery and helicopter bombardment.

On the political front the Bajaur Jirga broke down yesterday, and both Waziristan’s are boycotting the Pak-Afghan Jirga, along with the MMA. In other words, Musharraf has done what he could to make peace, after the Pak-Afghan jirga I suspect the Army goes fully weapons free in the Frontier. The cross-border Jirga needs to finish since there’s still some chance to gain some tribal allies from it, and if not allies then neutrality.
Meanwhile, the political arm of the jihadi outfits, the MMA, tried to re-direct flames from the Red Mosque adherents in the National Assembly today by accusing the CIA of killing the Chinese Nationals who were slain. The MMA bench applauded, but everyone else was silent. Most Pakistanis know that the Chinese were slain in sympathy and retribution for the Red Mosque.

Pakistan Update

On the political front there’s still a lot of back and forth: Musharraf and Bhutto are still going back and forth about when the uniform will come off. The opposition leader released by the Supreme Court of Pakistan,  Javed Hashmi, addressed the National Assembly in his role as acting President, PML-N, and leader of ARD (the coalition of minor parties opposed to Musharraf, mostly MMA and PML-N.) The opposition parties thumped as he arrived, but the PPP and PML members mostly ignored the speech.

Al Qaida Training Tape From Gaza

This video, purportedly filmed in Gaza shows “Jais-al-Ummah” Al Qaeda-Aligned  fighters training – yes there are the usual flaming hoop jumps.

Noteworthy are the Black AQ flag, the black outfits. On the other hand isn’t it HAMAs who does the flaming hoop jumps, or is that the “Moderate” Fatah?

Now you get a content-rejected message, so I salute Daily Motion for removing Jihadist videos. YouTube could learn something here.

Rudy Takes on a Hard-Hitting Journalist

Finally, a candidate who can fully answer hard-hitting detailed questions from reporters in a firm, concise, and polite manner. There simply wasn’t a follow-up after this quashing of the notion that Rudy didn’t deserve credit for the tax cuts he fought for in New York as Mayor. See below.

Sunday Morning Terror Roundup

samarra-mosque.jpgThis weekend has been a tour d’ force in combatting terror on several fronts, I’ll recap the major events below. First for all of the people involved in these captures and kills: you are doing a fantastically good job, we love you for it, please keep up the great work!

In Iraq US forces have killed the Al Qaeda mastermind who planned the attack on the Samarra Mosque, from Reuters:

The U.S. military said Haitham al-Badri, the al Qaeda leader in Salahuddin province, was killed by U.S. forces on August 2.

They said he was responsible for the bombing of the Golden Mosque on June 13 this year that destroyed its minarets and sparked a series of revenge attacks on Sunni mosques.

“During an operation August 2 east of Samarra, Coalition Forces killed … Haitham al-Badri, the al-Qaeda in Iraq emir of Salahuddin province. He is also the terrorist mastermind responsible for the Golden Mosque bombing in Samarra on June 13,” the U.S. military said in a statement.

Bill Roggio has full reportage and more detail at The Fourth Rail.

Saturday Night Terror Roundup

truck car was stopped with explosives tonight in South Carolina. Something to think on: the truck car came from Florida, was stopped in South Carolina, which is enroute to Washington DC. Maybe a stretch, but remember that the media outlet for Al Qaeda put up a banner promising a “Big Surprise” with a picture of Bush, Musharraf, and the White house burning recently.
