PPP and PML-N Funded and Armed the Taliban

talib2.jpgPapers released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) demonstrate that the government of Pakistan funded and equipped the Taliban throughout the 90’s. It’s what I have long said here, but now there is proof. Benazir Bhutto funded them, Nawaz Sharif funded them, all the while living like Moghuls while Pakistan remained underdeveloped.

Many blame the Saudi-influenced Islamist nature of Pakistan on Zia-al-Haq, but these papers demonstrate that the policies were just continued under Bhutto and Sharif. So during the massacres in Afghanistan, during the terror attacks, and during the destruction of society of Afhanistan the Pakistan government did more than just look the other way; they supported it all. Here’s a historical example from August, nine years ago Continue reading

Indian Mullahs Issue Death Fatwa Against Taslima

Indian Muslim Clerics have issued a Death Warrant, or Fatwah, against Taslima Nasreen, exiled Bangladeshi writer whose novel “Lajja” or Shame, portrayed the violence of massive Muslim/Hindi riots. Previously she was assaulted at the book release in India, you can see the video of that here, at Little Green Footballs, and her legal troubles with the religionists of rage are detailed here.

Suicide Bomber Injures Five Pakistan Soldiers Near Tank

A Pakistani security force convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber ramming them with a VBIED earlier, killing himself and injuring five soldiers. From Khaleej Times:

Earlier, Pakistani forces killed four suspected militants in a firefight after a rocket attack on their positions overnight in South Waziristan, local security officials said. Clashes between security forces and militants have been reported daily from the lawless region since the breakdown in July of a peace deal the authorities signed with pro-Taliban groups in September last year. Pakistan’s army said it killed 10 militants and injured a dozen others in clashes on Thursday which erupted after militants tried to ambush a security forces convoy on the Jandola road.

Wazir vs Mehsud War?

There have been several tense standoffs at the border of NWFP and SWFP in Pakistan, as Mehsud Taliban block the road and commerce from Waziristan to the north. The Wazir tribes, also Taliban, are holding soldiers hostage, while the Mehsuds are attacking the government as well.

It’s hard to keep the players straight, but there does appear to be a rift along tribal lines in the Taliban, although both factions are against the army and the Government of Pakistan. Continue reading

Doctor Doctor Give Me the News

pakistani-med-student.jpgNow that schools have re-opened the friction in Pakistani society between the hard-core terrorists, their sympathizers, the pacifist religious conservatives (who are hard to tell apart from the Islamist extremists,) and the general populace has moved to the universities.

Yesterday there was a large clash of students at the Sindh Medical College as students of the Punjabi Student Association (PSA,) fought with members of Islami-Jameyah-e-Talaba,(IJT,) which is the recruiting ground for Jamiat Islami members and leaders.

In the Wake of Independence Day

pakistan-flag.jpgYesterday Pakistan and their first newspaper, Dawn, both celebrated their sixtieth year. Birthed by partition on India’s independence from Britain, the nation was ushered into being by the unflagging work of Mr. Jinnah, or Qaid-e-Azam. So I will say “Pakistan Zindabad! and Dawn Zindabad! as well, sorry it’s a day late due to several problems at work. For more on Independence day, visit Metroblogging Islamabad.

During the celebrations, authorities captured  an unidentified squad of suicide bombers who were bent on a coordinated disruption of the celebrations.

Bombing Harry Potter : We Had Visitors

potterhallowsbook.jpgPreviously I detailed how terrorists tried to blow up the Harry Potter book release party in Karachi, and today from Iran we have this:

In an article, the Iranian daily Kayhan, which is identified with Iranian Supreme Leader ‘Ali Khamenei, criticized Iran’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry for approving the distribution of the new book in the “Harry Potter” series.

The paper said that “Harry Potter” was a Zionist project in which billions of dollars had been invested in order to disrupt the minds of young people.

Story courtesy of the Memri Blog

So we’ve gone from wahabbists bombing Harry Potter to “twelvers” banning him. Let’s face it — if it were a plot there would be Arabic, Farsi, and Urdu versions wouldn’t there? pfft. Now that I think on it though, Khameimi just realizes how close to a death-eater he looks. Ministry of Islamic guidance sounds real close to ministry of magic…. Continue reading
