A Wanderer’s Song

searocks.jpgA wind’s in the heart of me, a fire’s in my heels,
I am tired of brick and stone and rumbling wagon-wheels;
I hunger for the sea’s edge, the limit of the land,
Where the wild old Atlantic is shouting on the sand.

Oh I’ll be going, leaving the noises of the street,
To where a lifting foresail-foot is yanking at the sheet;
To a windy, tossing anchorage where yawls and ketches ride,
Oh I’l be going, going, until I meet the tide.

And first I’ll hear the sea-wind, the mewing of the gulls,
The clucking, sucking of the sea about the rusty hulls,
The songs at the capstan at the hooker warping out,
And then the heart of me’ll know I’m there or thereabout.

Oh I am sick of brick and stone, the heart of me is sick,
For windy green, unquiet sea, the realm of Moby Dick;
And I’ll be going, going, from the roaring of the wheels,
For a wind’s in the heart of me, a fire’s in my heels.

Pakistan Update

jamia-fareedia-mowlis.jpgJamia Faridia (Fareedia) has joined Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa in insanity by kidnapping three more policemen who are being held at the madrassa.

UPDATE: The 3 police were freed after hundreds of police deployed in force at the mosque. This clearly demonstrates the cowardice of the mullahs at Lal Masjid; without the crow’s skirts of Jamia Hafsa to hide behind they would never be so brazen. Story at ADN Kronos

Breaking: Greensburg Evacuated Again

greensburg-post-tornado3.jpgThe town of Greensburg Kansas that was destroyed nearly completely by a tornado three weeks ago has been evacuated again. High winds, rain and thunderstorms are moving into the area, and authorities made the call because of all the loose debris in the area and the lack of secure shelter.

From Breitbart:

GREENSBURG, Kan. (AP) – Residents and workers cleaning up since this town was nearly flattened by a tornado this month were asked to evacuate Monday as severe wind, rain and hail were forecast to move into the area. Sharon Watson, spokeswoman for the adjutant general, said the lack of shelter and the piles of debris left after the May 4 tornado have officials concerned about what would happen if severe weather were to strike again. Residents were asked to seek shelter outside of Greensburg, and out-of-town volunteers will not be allowed into the town on Tuesday.“There’s not enough basement space in Greensburg to protect the number of people we have there—residents and workers,” Watson said. “After all the destruction that town has seen, we certainly don’t want to have any more injuries or loss of life.”The National Weather Service said thunderstorms could move across Kiowa County late Monday afternoon and evening, producing winds of 40 to 50 mph and some small hail.The chance for severe storms is greater Tuesday, the weather service said, with large hail and wind gusts over 60 mph in the forecast. Heavy rainfall also is expected.The evacuation is not mandatory at this point but become so in the event of severe weather, Watson said.“The health and safety of the public is our primary concern right now,” said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the adjutant general. “We know that everyone would like to continue with the cleanup so Greensburg can start the rebuilding process. But if severe weather seems imminent, the prudent thing to do is stay out of Greensburg and seek shelter until it’s safe to return.”The May 4 tornado killed 12 people in south-central Kansas and destroyed more than 90 percent of the buildings in Greensburg, a town of 1,400 residents.

greensburg-post-tornado.jpgHere’s a picture of the aftermath again, as you can see pretty much every thing but the grain elevator and the storage tanks was destroyed or severely damaged.

Kansans: Please look for plexiglas donation booths at Costco next time you are there, I dropped $50.00 in one yesterday & we all need to help our fellow Kansans in their time of need. They are from our proud state and they aren’t the type of folks who are going to ask a lot for help, but they need every bit of aid they can get.

Other ways to Donate or Help:Rebecca’s Pocket has some links and suggestions

Lion’s Club

Senator Sam Brownback, presidential candidate for the Republican party also has some suggestions and links

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod has a fund and is volunteering

The Kansas National Education Association has some suggestions and links, one note do not send school supplies yet, they don’t know what they need at this time.

Also if you are a legitimate charity organization actively helping Greensburg, please leave a comment with a link and I will add you to the list, I plan to compile a semi-permanent page of links to organizations helping.

Al Qaeda Shifts Funds From Iraq to Pakistan’s NWFP

al-qaida-schism.jpgIn a sign that their strategy might be refocusing, Al Qaida is shifting funds and Jihadis from Iraq to the North West Frontier Province in Pakistan. While this might indicate good things for Iraq, it creates a dire future for Pakistan.

The strategy shift coupled with other efforts to destabilize Pakistan comes at a time when the country is in crisis. There are several things going on at once, and they all seem to have arisen just as the Pakistan Government was meeting with some success earlier in the year. Continue reading

Lal Masjid /Jamia Hafsa Readies for Confrontation

lal-masjid-batons.jpgThe students at Lal Masjid kidnapped four Policemen in Islamabad last week, which has escalated to a tense stand-off.  The government has finally reached the point where they are acting. To date the government has remained very passive against Lal Masjid, Jamia Hafsa, and Abdul Aziz because there are female students at the madrassa, and some speculate that it’s like Tianamen in China during the 80’s. In Tianamen, like Jamia Hafsa / Lal Masjid there are sons and daughters of some prominent Pakistanis, just as there were children of Party Elites demonstrating in the hunger-strike at Tianamen Square in China. Reports differ on the number of police, rangers, and Islamabad police in the area from 8,000 to 10,000. Meanwhile the mosque is playing Jihadi songs from the loud speakers and announcing to the students to get ready to become martyred. The clerics show their NWFP ties by announcing actions in the frontier, so it’s possible they are united with the Pakistani Taliban or remaining AQ in that area.

Massive Explosion in Beirut

beirut-1.jpgThere’s been a massive explosion in Beirut with one woman reported dead from a bomb under a car, or a car bomb. Carl in Jerusalem has updates and appears to be following the story well. There seems to be a lot of speculation as to who is responsible — Hizb’Allah, Fatah, Syria, or Al Qaeda?

The Race to Hydrogen Fuel

bmw-h2ice.jpgThe race for clean burning hydrogen-fuel vehicles is on; especially now that Man-Made-Global-Warming (MMGW) is the new century rage. What we really need is more energy, not griping, posturing, and moaning about global warming. Here’s an alarming projection borrowed from Space Review to prove the point:

Last year the academic quarterly Daedalus published an article by Daniel Nocera of MIT in which he laid out a credible and alarming vision of this world’s future energy demands. He pointed out that in 2002 the whole world “burned energy at a rate of 13.3 TW [terawatts]” and he calculated that “if 9 billion people adopt the current standard of living for a US resident… the world would need an astronomical 102 TW of energy in 2050.” He also pointed out that “If everyone adopts Equatorial Guinea’s current living standards, we will need 30.4 TW by 2050.”

However by happy accident the research fueled by the MMGW pseudo-crisis might drive us where we need to go anyway. Continue reading
