SOMALIA-PIRACY/CHINA.

Bent down low to avoid being shot, this Chinese sailor lights a Molotov cocktail before throwing it overboard at Somali pirates.

Lined up before him are dozens of others he and his shipmates prepared in order to fight off the attackers as they boarded their ship in the Gulf of Aden.
The Zhenhua 4 cargo ship had earlier sent out a distress call as it realised it was being chased by pirates in speedboats armed with heavy machine guns and rocket launchers

  1. Yes I’ve been there, pretty good site Render. My only complaint is he’s looking at it from a fully Naval perspective. He’s not looking at it from a passenger on a cruise ship, or merchant marine on an oil tanker perspective. The pirates are no problem if any Navy gets serious about them. (at one point US Naval ships were patrolling there — Jerry Pournelle’s son was on one of the ships iirc) They are a problem to merchant traffic, and continued ransom payments promises to bring escalation to sophisticated weapons. The Lloyd’s reports should raise some eyebrows on that along with the steep rate increase.
