Changes

Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs has inspired me with all of his code tweakage and improvements to his site, so I’m attempting some modest changes myself. The first you might note is larger font size, this one’s purely selfish so that I don’t have to wear my glasses when I proofread. (If you’ve noticed the editing quality here has gone markedly downhill lately, I hate wearing my glasses.)

I’ve cloned my main theme while I tweak, please don’t use the theme named “noble” as it’s the sandbox and really messy at the moment.

Update: I fixed the Calendar so it doesn’t display all wonky like it has since the upgrade to wp 2.x series with widgets embedded in the core. This is a major accomplishment since I am a css newby.

  1. Well, that’s certainly better than what I’m capable of. I have no CSS skillz whatsoever. If I did, I’d have my 16 headers on a random per-click basis instead of manually changing them once a week. lol I’ve got the basic HTML stuff figured out, but that’s about it.

I like the layout though, especially the big avatars. Fear the CZ throwing star!

  2. Well the rotating header thing would be in PHP, there’s a plugin called “random” or something like that might allow you to do it, I was going to try that but then got distracted by something important.

  3. There’s a how-to for it on the wordpress.com forums or in the FAQ, and it involves custom CSS, but it’s like reading Greek to me. I’d love to have the flexibility for more header creativity overall, like the ability to assign specific headers to different threads or by month in the archives or something. Probably not a high demand for something like that, but I’m sure it’s doable.

I suppose I shouldn’t complain too much. WP.com is a free service after all, and it has served my purposes well all things considered. But I’d actually pay money to have the cool rotating headers. I wonder if they’d hook me up for a $20? hmmm…probably worth an email lol
