Technorati Rank vs. Truthlaid Rank

Over at Technorati I am now here after entering my fourth month of blogging:

Technorati Rank: 89,640 (69 links from 34 sites)

So I’ve cracked the 100K ceiling, which probably doesn’t mean much as blogging goes, but it feels good here.

Meanwhile over at NZ’s place the ranking code for linkage is somewhat more complex. I honestly think he’s trying to do the right thing and get the important posts that folks really link to noticed. However, with linkback alliances (and yes, I have cheated and used these a few times if you’ve noticed lately) and UberBlogs, it makes the ascent to large readership a bit more of a challenge to the new blogger.

The way it seems to work is by counting links to posts on front pages of the linking blogs only, which is why a permanent sidebar link in anyone’s blog is cause for great celebration. It also means that if someone links to you and sticks a “more” bar in above the link, you might as well not have the link as far as NZ counts. So be kind with those linkbacks and keep them above the fold folks.

The other thing is the Uberblog — let’s all face it, Michelle Malkins or Captain Ed could post their grocery lists and people would link back to them for the exposure. (Note To Michelle & Ed — you really ought to try this some weekend for fun.) Fortunately for us their posts are usually both pithy and provocative.

Here’s how I look at Technorati for linkbacks, and here’s the dismal tale at the Bear’s Place. I honestly don’t know which is better, but it really bears some discussion. With the explosion of new blogs I think it’s important to start thinking of other measures of trust as well. Please don’t ask me what it should be however — any avenue I can think of leads to subjective measures instead of objective, and there you go down a slippery slope.

Update:

If you do a search on “Noblesse Oblige” I am now number seventeen at Google, and number 10 entry at Yahoo.
